Bria Powell (Charlotte, NC) began her dance training at B.B. Dance Productions, where she studied tap, jazz, lyrical, ballet, hip hop, pointe, and gymnastics. Over the years, she expanded her training to include modern, contemporary, and African dance, competing regionally and nationally with B.B. Dance Productions until her high school graduation.
Bria also attended the North Carolina Dance Theatre, focusing primarily on ballet and pointe. She studied at the Northwest School of the Performing Arts, where she majored in dance. At just 12 years old, she performed for the WNBA's Charlotte Sting, the city's professional women's basketball team. Bria continued her dance education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she had the honor of dancing for Maya Angelou and participating in Cyrus Arts Production, directed by Duane Cyrus, a former dancer with the Alvin Ailey Company, Martha Graham Company, and The Lion King on Broadway. She graduated in Fall 2016 with a BFA and Licensure.
Since then, Bria has worked at two Black-owned studios, sharing her knowledge and experience. Over the past three years, she has choreographed for competition teams, earning high score awards and special recognition at national competitions. Bria is now thrilled to return to B.B. Dance Productions, the very place where she began her dance journey and laid her foundation in dance.
