If you’ve ever watched "So You Think You Can Dance" or attended a Taylor Swift concert, you’ve likely seen one of the many dancers trained under the expertise of Lisa D. Wright. As a dancer, choreographer, and director, Lisa is known for her fresh style of hip hop and street jazz. Born in New York City, the performing arts capital of the world, she began her dance journey at the age of five, studying at the prestigious Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre.
A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, Lisa has spent her post-collegiate years traveling the East and West Coasts, studying and teaching at some of the most prominent dance companies and studios. Following in the footsteps of her mentors, Chonique Sneed and Lisette Bustamante, she is an Elite Team Leader for the Los Angeles-based mentorship program "Creating Opportunities" and is the Founder of EleKtriK Dance Company.
Recognizing a lack of resources for aspiring commercial dancers in Charlotte, NC, she established EleKtriK Dance Company to provide opportunities for young dancers to train with top artists, gaining the confidence and skills needed to succeed in the commercial dance industry. Lisa has also collaborated with CollectiveUth, teaching workshops in both NYC and NC.
Highlights of her dance career include being a principal dancer in commercials for AT&T and Nike, performing in music videos and tours nationally and internationally, and serving as the opening act for Hairspray on Broadway. She has also performed and choreographed for promo tours for BET’s 106 and Park, earning numerous awards for both her choreography and performances.
Lisa proudly states, “Growing up in a poor, single-parent household, I was taught that through hard work and perseverance, anything is possible. You can be anything you want to be! And if what you want doesn’t exist, who says you can’t create it?”
